The Light Studio provides children with the opportunity to explore the many facets of light. Reflection, refraction, shadows and STEM are explored through our hands-on activities. Children are allowed to manipulate their surroundings and construct their own designs using are variety of materials including manipulatives, overhead projectors, screens, battery-powered light, light tables, black lights and video projectors.
The Art Atelier encourages self expression through several of the Hundred of Languages of Children as described by Loris Malaguzzi, the founder of the Reggio Emilia approach. Using a multitude of art mediums and creative outlets children are given a unique opportunity to express themselves. Materials such as clay, paint, paper, loose parts and sensory materials are readily available to allow for each child's unique vision to come to life.
In the Outdoor Classroom the children have the opportunity to explore nature. From observational drawings to bug hunts, the Outdoor Classroom has it all! Each year the children plan, weed, plant, grow and harvest vegetables from our gardens. In the Fall, we host a "Farmer's Market" and share our harvest with our families. The Outdoor Classroom also hosts a giant sandbox, pollinator beds, a climbing tree, loose parts center, fairy garden and weaving loom.
Big Muscle Room
Our Big Muscle Room, or BMR, is a gross motor spaced designed to meet the sensory needs of our students. With advice from local Occupational Therapists, the BMR has items that push, pull, spin, balance and bounce! We recently added in large wooden blocks to provide our children with opportunities for heavy work. This flexible space gives children the opportunity to meet their self-regulation needs independently while having fun!
Bike Track and Green Space
The Bike Track and Green Space are two more of our outdoor spaces built for play! Students can ride around the bike track or spend time engaging in shadow or the creation of art masterpieces with chalk! The Green Space offers amply opportunities to run, jump and tumble or can become a nice shady spot to read stories and to observe the clouds as they roll by.
Our Playgrounds consists of developmentally appropriate equipment for each age group. Children can explore art, sound, nature and build new skills as they climb and play on one of two playground spaces. Each playground contains a shade structure, mud kitchen and various playground equipment. Following heavy rain, the children are excited to venture out to explore the depths of the mud puddles. Don't forget your rubber boots!
