Light Studio
The Light Studio provides your child with the opportunity to explore the many facets of light. Reflection, refraction, shadows and STEAM are explored through hands-on activities. Your child will enter a "yes" environment in which every item is meant to be manipulated to allow your child the ability to construct their own designs using a variety of materials including manipulatives, overhead projectors, screens, battery-powered light, light tables, black lights and video projectors.
Art Atelier
The Art Atelier encourages your child's self expression through several of the Hundred of Languages of Children as described by Loris Malaguzzi, the founder of the Reggio Emilia approach. Using a multitude of art mediums and creative outlets, your child is given a unique opportunity to express themselves. Materials such as clay, paint, paper, loose parts and sensory materials are readily available to allow for each child's unique vision to come to life.
Outdoor Classroom
In the Outdoor Classroom your child will have the opportunity to explore nature. From observational drawings to bug hunts, the Outdoor Classroom has it all! Each year the children plan, weed, plant, grow and harvest vegetables from our gardens. In the Fall, we host a "Farmer's Market" and share our harvest with our families. The Outdoor Classroom also hosts a giant sandbox, pollinator bed, a climbing tree, loose parts center, fairy garden and weaving loom.
Big Muscle Room
Our Big Muscle Room, or BMR, is a gross motor space designed to meet the sensory needs of your child. With advice from local Occupational Therapists, the BMR has items that push, pull, spin, balance and bounce! We recently added large wooden blocks to provide your child with the opportunity for heavy work. This flexible space gives your child the opportunity strengthen their ability to self regulate as they meet their physical needs independently while having fun!
Bike Track
The Bike Track is one of outdoor spaces built for play! Your child can ride around the bike track or spend time engaging in shadow play or the creation of art masterpieces with chalk! The Bike Track is home to water days where children explore a variety of water themed invitations.
Ruth Nitsun Early Childhood Library
Established in 2017 in honor of former Early Childhood Director, Ruth Nitsun, the Early Childhood Library is more than just books. Monthly visits from the Public Library and weekly pop-ins by Giving Tree classes make this space a gateway to new adventures. One day it might be a puppet theater and the next, a quiet space to enjoy a story from one of our reading buddies in the upper school. In addition to various genres of books, we also use the library to encourage storytelling, oratory skills and library etiquette.
The Grove
The Grove is our new green space located in the green area at the front of the playground. The Grove is home to water play with a series of troughs, music through a large outdoor glockenspiel, and two outdoor balance beams. Children will have a chance to sit among the trees or engage in various methods of self expression in this outdoor space!
Playground
Our Playgrounds consists of developmentally appropriate equipment for each age group. Your child can explore art, sound, nature and build new skills as they climb and play on one of two playground spaces. Each playground contains a shade structure, mud kitchen and various playground equipment. Following heavy rain, the children are excited to venture out to explore the depths of the mud puddles. Don't forget your rubber boots!
